My niece (who is going to be rich) asked me recently where in the world I’d like to go for a vacation if I could just up and do it. Without hesitation I said – New Guinea. She was a bit baffled, never having even heard of it. After I explained it to her she shrugged and said, “OK, John. When I’m rich, I’m going to send you there!” What a great kid. That was Thursday. Friday, I saw this story on LiveScience.com and it just adds to my desire – and I think you’ll understand why.

I wanted to go there before this

Looks like a magical place. I'm currently creating some animations for a producer doing an independent project aimed at kids showing the wonders of the rainforests of Central America. The long term goal is to get backing to expand it to go all over the world. I'd definitely recommend putting New Guinea on that list. Perhaps if your niece is going to be rich in the near future she'd be interested in backing the project. You can go ahead and be location scout. ;)
I've been quite amazed at what exists in the rainforests of Central America. I think there would be countless wonders in New Guinea and elsewhere on this planet that would probably equally astound me. What's sad is that a lot of these places are quite dangerous due to a particularly fearsome and ignorant predator, humans.
Re: The Bird of Paradise video...I have tried doing that dance at disco's to pick up girls, it did not work for me either.

She's a sophomore in college, so I'm not expecting "rich" soon. But maybe the backer of your project wants to send me. Hell, I'm willing to WORK for trip!

Yes, I can see a lot of men immitating that particular dance. It's a good one.
There are so many places that I'd love to see. New Guinea would definitely be up there.
I'd also love to see New Zealand. I was invited to a wedding out there years ago and stupid me didn't take them up on it. :(
Yeah, but now that you know Lynet, you'll have a place to stay there - for free! :)
That's a cool video clip. Hew Guinea, Australia and New Zealand are all places I'd love to visit.
As I stare out the office window into this rainy, overcast, miserable day... I too long for a wealthy niece to send me off to Tahiti.
Cool videos.
You're right Chaplain. Any of those Asian Pacific areas would be a great experience.
Lifey... it's beautiful in SoCal today, and I STILL long for it.
A civilized, culturally diverse city for me: New York, San Francisco, London, Paris, Rome, Madrid, Amsterdam ...
I'm happy watching nature where god meant it to be: on TV.

SoCal... never been, but I'm guessing it's a whole lot better than here right now!

Come on... NO desire to be in some wild tropical paradise?
LOL! Actually, I'm not all that different from Ex. I want to be there, but I do want to be reasonably comfortable most of the time also. I want my laptop, with internet connection. I don't want to be camping out (most of the time), but I can deal with some farily humble accomodations. I would see my explorations as being more of the day-trip variety.
I'm with Evo: Day trips into the wild are fine, as long as I can come back to the city for dinner at a great restaurant.
