Who needs the supernatural? We have physics and the Higgs boson.

You can read more about the theory from The Niels Bohr Institute and physicists Nielsen and Ninomiya here.

So what do I think? That they are are in a minute minority of physicists, the LHC will finally get going (starting this Friday, incidentally), many new discoveries will come out of it in the next few years, and we'll all enjoy the fruits of the paltry $6 billion that has been invested so far.

I'm just pissed at America for letting this project slip away from us. We were supposed to have had this supercollider in Texas and it should have been built a decade ago. More economic and intellectual loss that can be laid at the feet of conservatives.

If it causes the end of the universe, it will be a more interesting end than the one hypothesized by any religion. In case I don't get the chance to say it - thanks for all the times you stopped by here to read or watch videos.

"If it causes the end of the universe,"

Oh please. You're not one of those, are you?

For fucksakes, cl... you have become such a literalist lately! Smile! Have fun!

No, the world's not ending. How closely did you read what I wrote?

Strange comment, John: I bet I smile and have more fun that you do on a daily basis.

For what it's worth, I did think you were joking. Yet, there's always a chance, so I asked.

Why don't you take a chill pill?

I don't mean to be alarmist, cl -- but did you know that the Mayans predicted Johnny Evo would write this post?

So here's a serious question, for anyone who can answer it. How come so many Christians, who think that they should worship no other gods except their own, have been buying into a doomsday prophecy based on Meso-American mythology?

Ex,

"I don't mean to be alarmist, cl -- but did you know that the Mayans predicted Johnny Evo would write this post?"

Not only that, they also predicted SI would eventually wuss out and resort to censorship with Gideon! I know! I read it!

"So here's a serious question, for anyone who can answer it. How come so many Christians, who think that they should worship no other gods except their own, have been buying into a doomsday prophecy based on Meso-American mythology?"

Uh, I have no idea what you're talking about. I presume 2012? If so, what is the basis for your claim that "so many Christians" have been buying into said doomsday prophecy? Do you just mean that you notice people you'd classify as Christians worrying about it, or something?

Yes. Actually, people who classify themselves as Christian.

Ex,

What sort of worries and/or explanations do you typically hear these people express?

Bahahaha!

Ex, I certainly hope that was your old dry wit. It better be, because it was deliciously funny!

Are you being disingenuous, or what? Haven't you heard that the world is coming to an end?

I thought you'd stopped asking stupid questions.

What is it with old people and patience? Or, is that another stupid question?

Of course I've heard that, you short tempered little Exterminator, you! I was asking because I had no idea what the people you hear actually express regarding 2012. As in, maybe they're trying to say it would be the rapture, or some final judgment, or the appearance of Satan, or something else. I just wanted a bit more context to actually answer your question with, ya grump.

If all you mean to ask is why so many who call themselves Christians believe the world is going to end that day, I have no idea. I'm sure each will have differing reasons.

So, god's name is Higgs? And he's just a particle? What a letdown!
