"What's in it for me"? sayeth the Lord

"Ever meet anyone from the city of Hebron"? No? That's because of evil babies.

Other questions for those who claim that these were "different times" and god only did things like that back when peoples' understanding was so meager and it was necessary to maintain "order":

How come god never actually says that? How come there is no explanation for why he would have had to give such abominable commands, back in the day? Why is it that the only indication of this comes not from god, but from modern apologists for him? Why didn't Jesus say that those things were abhorrent to god, rather than confirming the value of the older laws? And couldn't he have indicated, now that he was laying down his own life, that god wouldn't be requiring any more killing over silly matters? Why is there no instructions in any of the holy texts for ending slavery or the subjugation of women?

Gideon:

What a lot of words for a bullshit argument!

If your god made an imperfect creature -- namely, humans -- then he himself must not be perfect. Why, then, should you assume that his actions, as reported in the bible, are perfect, instead of fucked up and immoral. In other words, following your argument: the human concept of morality is clearly of a higher order than your god's.

Can you say "Epicurus," boy and girls?

Gideon:

What, in your exalted opinion, is perfection, Exterminator?

I've never made a claim to know what perfection is; you have. I do know that murdering people for no other reason than that they've pissed you off is not perfect, by any definition.

I dunno, there seems to be more than enough guidance and counsel given in scripture that would testify of the non-belligerency of God...

Are you reading the same book that the rest of us are? Non-belligerency? You're shitting us, right? FYI: The figure depicted in your icon, that warrior for your god, is nothing if not belligerent!

Well, it took a lot of wasted bullshit for you to finally get something right. Man, ... I'm standing in awesome company, here! Yup.

By the way, we who accept the findings of evolutionary science know that owls are just as smart as they need to be. However, perhaps you think that your god fucked up yet again and cheated them out of necessary brains.

Crows and ravens are amazing, by the standards of human intelligence. And they probably don't waste their time or their intellect, as you do, thinking about imaginary beings. In fact, I'd guess that it's far easier to have a logical two-way conversation with a crow than with a Christian.

Well, God's followers--namely you, Gideon--seem to be plenty belligerent. I think you're just following your deity's example, actually.

Gideon:

As you probably know, many of us in the Atheosphere take a firm stand against the banning of commenters. If Lorena has indeed banned you, I deplore that action. [Please note, Lorena: That doesn't mean I don't think he's a pain in the ass. I just feel strongly that even jerks should be entitled to their say.]

What I don't get, though, Gideon, is why you would come crying to a bunch of atheists. Couldn't a few moments of prayer to your god help you to get reinstated? Surely, the big guy must have some control over Lorena's actions. If not, what the fuck good is he? Lorena isn't a competing deity, is she?
