Prosecuting Cheney

A lot of us have called for an investigation of the Bush administration, but Obama has been tiptoeing around it for six months. It was really looking like it was highly improbable to say the least. And I haven't heard any calls for it yet, but this new information might be exactly what it takes to get the ball rolling. And, I'll guarantee you, if the ball starts rolling - it won't stop until it gets to the bottom. This is the last thing Cheney needed.

But if the CIA has been lying, then doesn't that give W's Royal Court an out? All they would have to say is, "they never said any of that was going on to us."

I really didn't understand that crap they gave Pelosi when she said they were lying. She does deserve crap, but not on the basis that the CIA doesn't lie. Since when did anyone think the CIA doesn't lie? That's their job.

Scarborough is a tool. Now he's Starbucks' tool, a venti tool.

Gideon - Go to my sidebar and check out the titles of my posts over the past year.

Ah! But lying to *Congress* doesn't mean the White House didn't know, or even order it. In fact, with what we know about Cheney, what would you guess? It's highly unlikely that the CIA was simply "going rogue". But I suppose that's what will come out in an investigation.

Good ol' reasonable doubt. If the CIA will lie to Congress, then they'll lie to everyone. There's their defense, probably, that is if they ever need one. I doubt they'll ever get pressed to have to come up with one.

Philly:
You need to read the story in the New York Times. The CIA lied under orders from Cheney.

On the other hand, this new information might be exactly what it takes to get Obama to reveal conclusively what a lying, do-nothing, demi-Republican cop-out he is.

Ex - that too.

And here's the link to what Ex is talking about.

And here, in its entirety from The New York Times, is the explanation before the fact of why the Obama Administration will do nothing. (The boldface is mine).

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Attorney General Eric Holder is considering whether to appoint a prosecutor to investigate the Bush administration's interrogation practices.

A Justice Department official told the Associated Press that Holder plans to make a final decision within the next few weeks. The official spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on a pending matter.

A move to appoint a prosecutor is certain to stir partisan bickering that could create a distraction to President Barack Obama's efforts to push health care and energy reform. Obama has expressed reluctance to having a probe, saying the nation should be "looking forward and not backwards" when it came to Bush-era abuses.

I know, I know. Having seen this article, and having watched and listened to Obama for 1/8 of his term, I'm left with little hope on this subject. The *only* positive I can find is that he has seemed slightly more open to the possibility of an independent prosecutor in his more recent statements. But if Holder declines to investigate, that's pretty much it.

The rhesus is not SI's ancestor, Gideon. It's his distant cousin.

Precision, my friend, might give credence to your claim to understand modern evolutionary theory as well as I do.

Fair enough. I'm the authority on the modern evolutionary synthesis and you are the expert on the bible and Mad magazine! I'll take it. :)

No, Spastic Interloper, they don't, because even the smartest animals are below me..

You meant "under me", didn't you?

Amazing how intelligence, like water, always seeks its own level.
