If you've ever read this blog...

Then don't say no one ever told you. In fact, you've undoubtedly heard it here any number of times. I know some people who came to the realization rather late. I know they wish it had been sooner. But I say to them, better late than never.

I made it to the third minute. This video sucked.

I hate to agree with cl, but he's right.

The guy in the video takes a bubble bath and suddenly becomes Mr. Science? Gimme a break. Also, doesn't he seem to have unusually weepy friends?

Oddly enough, the narrator has an "aha" moment -- based on gut feeling, apparently -- that differs very little from the "aha" moment of a deist. He focuses on scientific facts and speculations, rather than on critical thinking.

But really, learning specific scientific answers (his "truth") is not the crux of freethought; those answers keep changing as scientific knowledge evolves. Knowing that there's a methodology by which answers can be found, refined, even disproven -- that's what's necessary to vanquish superstition.

Which is why I prefer cold showers to bubble baths.

Yeah, right. You know if it's not something to do with religion, we tend to agree quite a bit on the various issues, and even sometimes when it is something to do with religion.

I think the most recent thing we'd agreed on was that when backed into a corner, our boy PhillyChief often chooses chest-puffing over cogency.

It gets better after the 5:00 mark. It's a rather long winded video to explain the evil of willful ignorance and the benefits of knowledge and yes, I'd lose the bubble bath story. Of course having never been in the religious camp, I can't fathom either that kind of thinking or what it takes to snap out of it. Maybe it does require something silly like a bubble bath. I don't know.

I obviously saw it somewhat differently than the thoughtful among you did (though I found it mildly surprising that cl would give me the benefit of the doubt to stick it out).

Philly comes closest to "getting it" in my opinion. But to each his own. Anyway, I didn't even read your comments prior to posting a new video, so I don't want you to think you cowed me into doing so! :D

I just think the new video can't wait. It's much more important socially, than the one we are presently discussing.

I know what you meant, John. I didn't have anything to do with you. I just didn't like what I saw and heard in those three minutes of the video. What gives on the other questions from the other thread though? How'd you arrive where you did? Wanna meet me over there and discuss?

I actually enjoyed the video, John. I understand his excitement, though that isn't necessarily an indication of truth. But seeing the truth suddenly, in a flash that engenders an extreme emotional experience, is most certainly a reality, even in scientists.

A little long, perhaps. Everybody wants to be in pictures! LOL!
