I never knew John McCain was a POW. Why won't the LIEbrul media tell us anything!!1!
P.S. Obama hates the flag. Again. But will we hear about this from the MSM???
I'm shocked that he was a POW! Maybe we should encourage him to run for President! POWs are totally qualified to be president on that quality alone!
This post has confirmed why you are my first source for actual news. I'd never heard a thing about McCain's POW experience until I read it here. What a powerful campaigning tool that would be, if he were crass enough to use it. But, he's a hero and a gentleman, so we won't hear another word about it from him or his staff.
It's no secret that he was a POW, that he had his arms broken by his captors, etc. In fact, one of McCain's strong points is that the only time he really talks about personal experiences with faith is when he talks about those wartime experiences. He's certainly not quiet about it, but I think he realizes, as we all should, that something that happened to him 30 years ago really has no bearing on his ability to lead the country today.
Yes, he was a hero. What has he done for us lately?
Oh, a P.O.W. I kept thinking that the media kept calling him a C.O.W. Of course, I had no idea what that meant, but I had no intention of saying "moo" in November.
I am wondering why the Mccain campaign didn't use that for their advantage (instead they made that Paris Hilton video). I wonder...I wonder...I wonder...
Are they perhaps waiting for the right time ? ! ?
I can only imagine what those evil Confederate soldiers did to him while he was a POW.
db - those were Union soldiers. Hard to believe - the Union would act that way, that is.
I am shocked that it was the Union army that was torturing him. I am even more shocked because they are the precursor to our current US government who would NEVER engage in such an inhuman and unChristian concept like torture!
There's an underlying reason for concern here though, and that is that McCain, at least in my opinion, has been completely out-campaigning Obama since mid-July.
Given the state of the country and McCain's lack of popularity with the right wing of his party, there is no reason why Obama and McCain should be neck and neck right now except for the fact that McCain's running a very effective campaign. On the issues you'd think this thing should be a freaking blowout.
In Obama's defense, I did hear something about him once being a community organizer. Seriously, though, he'd better get his act together or this thing's going to end up in front of the Supremes again.
He has been very humble in sharing this. As an ex-marine, I have nothing but the upmost respect for him.
Pastor - I know you didn't say this, so I'm just curious: do you have the "utmost respect" for all marines? And do all marines who went through what John McCain did, have international experience for the office of president because of it? Finally, is it a fair or logical argument to bring up his time in the Hanoi Hilton while dealing with questions on a gaff?
I honestly don’t believe that John McCain’s time as POW qualifies him for anything more then our respect. I’m not saying he’s not qualified…just that his status during the war is not the “qualifying” matter.
As to “all” marines: no. I’ve served with some real bozos. Some who shot their own legs to get out of combat (first gulf war).
I have respect for McCain's sacrifice as a POW, but he is watering down that sacrifice by using it as an excuse for everything and every chance he gets. He is turning the sacrifice our soldiers make into a political stunt. It is disrespectful to those soldiers who have gone through the same and even more disrespectful to those who will not come back.
What a shock! And he never once mentioned it. His humility is awe-inspiring.
It's totally not as if that's the ONLY thing anyone in Yoorp knows about him.
The USA had better hope that being a POW isn't a great qualification for becoming President.
Otherwise, there may be some really riled Gitmo graduaes taking power in the Middle East soon.
