My friend Paul said it best one night forty years ago when we were both stoned at a small party at my place. He went outside for a few minutes, came back in, looked me in the eye and said, quite soberly and seriously, 'Ric, there's nothing out there.'

Another friend, Leslie, intoned on Meeting Street in Providence at two a.m. that 'You can never kill time. The best you can hope for is to maim it a little.'
