Pinker on “The Stuff of Thought”

If you have considered reading Harvard cognitive scientist Steven Pinker’s recent book “The Stuff of Thought”, you might want to listen to this in-depth interview with him. Don’t worry, he doesn’t give away the shocking surprise ending! The interview is done by The Guardian Unlimited for their Science Weekly program.

I guess I'm gonna have to bump the Pinker book higher on my list of must-buy's. Last time I was in the bookstore, I opted instead for The Black Lizard Big Book of Pulps. (I'm serious!)

@ Ex - I hadn't heard of it, and I haven't read any of the pulp detective stories since I was a teenager (though I used to enjoy them a good bit). I looked it up on Amazon and found this, in one of the reviews - To be sure, there are some selections sure to offend modern sensibilities.

I'm guessing this won't apply to you. The same minds that would be "offended" are likely the same ones who are offended at reading the word "nigger" in Mark Twain's "Huckleberry Finn". Not that pulp fiction is the same quality, but you have to consider the era that a book is written in.

@ Philly -

NO... Thank YOU!

Oh, sure, like I'm not under enough pressure to get my reading done for the Nonbelieving Literati, you have to add to my list.

The big question still remains:..."So, what's up with the hair?"

Thanks! I added the book to my Amazon wishlist. :)

As soon as I get through a few more books I'll definitely be ordering it.

Also, I was listening to him this morning on the Point of Inquiry podcast.

@ EnoNomi - Sorry... but I know that my many highly "language oriented" friends in the Atheosphere are into this kind of "stuff".

@ Silly - As a guy who regularly makes it on to lists of "sexiest scientists", he isn't likely to ever change!

OG - you were one of the ones I was thinking of in regards to my response to EnoNomi!
