Clinton Would Hang

WASHINGTON - Former White House press secretary Scott McClellan blames President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney for efforts to mislead the public about the role of White House aides in leaking the identity of a CIA operative.

In an excerpt from his forthcoming book, McClellan recount the 2003 news conference in which he told reporters that aides Karl Rove and I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby were "not involved" in the leak involving operative Valerie Plame.

"There was one problem. It was not true," McClellan writes, according to a brief excerpt released Monday. "I had unknowingly passed along false information. And five of the highest-ranking officials in the administration were involved in my doing so: Rove, Libby, the vice president, the president's chief of staff and the president himself." (Entire story)

I've been calling for the impeachment of George Bush and Dick Cheney for nearly two years (since the story broke about the illegal screening of the phone records of millions of American citizens). I know it's highly unlikely that the cowardly Democrats will actually do the right thing and, at the very least, launch a series of hearings concerning the several issues that could be considered potential impeachable offenses (all of which, I can assure you, are much more vital to our country than a President lying about whether or not he had sex with an intern).

Bill Clinton would never have done the many unconstitutional things that Bush/Cheney have done. But had he, we would not only be having hearings and impeachment proceedings, but there would be Republicans clamoring for the death penalty for treason. I'll bet you thought I was being rhetorical with the title of this post, didn't you? I'm not in the least. I honestly believe that at least some of them would be actively claiming that the outing (and lies afterwards) of an undercover agent of an American intelligence agency is a capital offense. And you know what? I think I'd agree with them. But it doesn't matter what you or I think. Bush is laughing at us and at our Constitution.

If the Democrats had any goddamn backbones, Cheney would have been impeached as soon as they gained control of Congress.

And Bush would have been next.

But there's a one-party system in this country called Watchyourass-ublicrats. And their combined motto is: fuck the American people.

Thanks for posting this. I heard this on tv this morning over coffee. I can't believe that fat little worm is squealing. Snow is still holding the party line. I think the difference is Snow, having been with Fox for so long, had already grown comfortable exchanging his credibility for "street cred" amongst the right-wingnuts. For McClellan, the loss of real credibility isn't sitting well with him. I don't know if it's a matter of conscience or a matter of not being fawned over and given lucrative speaking events from the right-wingnuts. Whatever the motivation, I'm glad he spoke out and I hope he continues to do so before they get to him and reign him back in.

Sadly, only the little elf Kuccinich would have the balls to pursue this. Damn, that little man must have quite a set. He calls for Dick's impeachment and did you see his wife? He must be hung like a King Kong.

Democrats are pussies. We need a knew party, something like the "No bullshit, no fucking around" party. Maybe I need to start that party. Hmmm, if only I didn't need so much money to compete in US politics.

Bush's smile makes me so uncomfortable. Sometimes I think he lives behind the moon... he couldn't possibly live on the same planet that I live on or he would clearly not laugh like that. Interesting are the following quotes by him and others during Clinton's time as president... found here: http://twashim.com/alpha/

“If we are going to commit American troops, we must be certain they have a clear mission, an achievable goal and an exit strategy.”
–Karen Hughes, speaking on behalf of George W Bush

“Victory means exit strategy, and it’s important for the President to explain to us what the exit strategy is.”– Governor George W. Bush (R)-TX

“I cannot support a failed foreign policy. History teaches us that it is often easier to make war than peace. This administration is just learning that lesson right now. The President began this mission with very vague objectives and lots of unanswered questions. A month later, these questions are still unanswered. There are no clarified rules of engagement. There is no timetable. There is no legitimate definition of victory. There is no contingency plan for mission creep. There is no clear funding program. There is no agenda to bolster our over-extended military. There is no explanation defining what vital national interests are at stake. There was no strategic plan for war when the President started this thing, and there still is no plan today”–Rep Tom Delay (R-TX)

Brilliant! I love those quotes. I remember the Daily Show did a bit where they had Pres. Bush debate Gov. Bush. Hysterical to see how his reasoning has changed. Gov. Dubya made great points to challenge Pre. Dubya. If only there were present day people like that. I know there's an interview with Cheney from after the 1st iraq war that was delicious, too.

Fucking asshat hypocrites.

Thanks for posting this. Of course, I suspect that most of us in the atheosphere have known all along that Bush and Cheney have been lying out of every orifice in their bodies since their first campaign. McLellan, a person in a position to confirm or deny that fact, has finally confirmed it.

Here's what gets me about McLellan's book. It's several fucking years too late! This revelation isn't going to do the country a damn bit of good now. Libby's trial is a done deal. His sentence has been commuted and he'll probably be pardoned in about 13 months.

I sincerely hope that Bush and Cheney will be prosecuted after they leave office. I also hope that Ed McMahon is bringing my Publisher's Clearinghouse check to my house tonight. Both events are equally likely to occur.

I just hope that the American political system isn't FUBAR!

I'm not even willing to give the Democrats a psychological pass by calling them merely "pussies." They're co-conspirators in everything that's going on.

Evo:
You see, now you've gotten Philly and me pissed off. Nice Thanksgiving appetizer, pal.

I need Turkey now. I could use the tryptophan to take the edge off.

Bush will write some pardon on his way out for everyone, just like Clinton did. If they don't take them now, it's too late. After they're out of office, they're teflon coated.

@ Chaplain "Here's what gets me about McLellan's book. It's several fucking years too late!"

Well, yeah... that's a different, but interesting on its on merits, issue. Isn't it just amazing - all of the brave and patriotic Americans who stand up and "TELL IT LIKE IT IS" as soon as it does us no good at all? McClellan, Powell, Clark, a number of former Generals, etc. Unconscionable.

@ Ute - Thanks for the quotes and for visiting. Based on your blog I figured you might like to visit. Check out some of the other commenters blogs - GOOD stuff!

You said, Bush's smile makes me so uncomfortable. Yeah, but better the smile than that laugh. Augggggh.

chaplain:
You hit the nail on the head about McClellan's book being too little too late. The thing is: all these government hacks who write their "tell-all" books way after the fact are in it just for the money. Now, I have nothing against writing books to increase one's income. But the guise of being "public-spirited," of finally not being able to take the lies any more, makes me snicker with contempt.

By the way, chappy, it's nice to have you openly joining the dialogue. I don't know whom you're gonna thank this Thanksgiving, although I have a pretty good idea of whom you're not gonna thank. But I'd like to thank you for helping me realize that our little blogs might actually do some good.

Yes, I'm checking out all their great blogs... and not getting anything done that I had planned for today. :)
